The Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Communication of Brno University of Technology (FEEC BUT) hosted the 24th annual St. Nicholas meeting of the Young Generation of the Czech Nuclear Society, which traditionally brings together experts and students from the field of nuclear energy. This year's event was attended by many young scientists, representatives of companies and academia from all over the Czech Republic. Among the participants were, of course, students from the new Master's programme in Nuclear Energy.
Rich programme with emphasis on professional relevance
The programme included presentations by young professionals, mostly from research. Furthermore, presentations of the best bachelor and master theses, which were awarded by the Czech Nuclear Society and the ÚJV Řež Society. An interesting part of the programme was also a lecture by representatives of Framatome, who presented Framatome fuel for VVER-1000 and VVER-440 reactors. In the evening informal part of the meeting the participants tested their knowledge in a nuclear pub quiz.
Excursion to the underground research site Bukov
An unforgettable point of the meeting programme was the Friday excursion to the Bukov underground research facility, where experiments related to the safe disposal of radioactive waste are carried out. Experiments, technologies and materials for the future deep underground repository to be built in the future at the selected site are being tested at PVP Bukov.
St. Nicholas tradition in the spirit of the future
The St. Nicholas Day meeting at the FEEC BUT is an opportunity not only for professional discussion, but also for making new contacts and sharing experiences not only of young professionals. We thank all participants and partners for their support and look forward to next year's event, which will once again be a beneficial platform for the development of the nuclear science community.
