Let's go back to this year's Bastlfest at the VIDA! science centre, which took place on the weekend of 25-26 January and was extremely successful. The event attracted a record number of visitors - 1156 on Saturday and 873 on Sunday, a total of more than 2000 enthusiasts.
Our team from FEEC stood out for their proactive approach to visitors. In our workshop, interested visitors, especially children aged 5-10 with their parents or grandparents, could choose from a variety of electronic kits depending on their difficulty - from simple lights to more complex devices such as Knight Rider or an electronic cube.
A team consisting of Aleš Povalač, Jan Král and Martin Pospíšil (all from Departmnet of Radio Electronics), supplemented by former students and employees, provided basic instruction on how to use the soldering iron. The team members assisted in assembling the selected kit according to the instructions and willingly explained the principle of operation. In total, they helped assemble over 160 kits!

Scientific Conference in Kolín
Jan Toman and his humanoid robot InMoov represented FEEC at the Scientific Conference in Kolín on 6 February. We accepted the invitation of the Secondary School of Mechanical Engineering to introduce the study at our faculty to high school students and to show what it is possible to learn here. We then demonstrated to the young children that technology is not only useful but also fun.

VIDA! Robots
Again VIDA! and again Jan Toman, this time at the VIDA! Robots, which took place on 22 February. Jan's humanoid robot InMoov received an extraordinary response. He winked at visitors, warmly shook their hands or performed his original dance. To meet this fascinating technology, visitors sometimes had to wait in line, but this did not deter them.
"I'm still improving my robot, but it's already doing cool things. It blinks, it can smile, it moves its eyes and eyebrows," described Jan Toman from FEEC.
The workshop led by Pavel and Ondřej Šteffan was immediately busy. Robot lovers could also program one of their own. Through software, they set the robot named Tobbie II in motion. The participants taught the six-legged robot to drive in all directions, turn around or make sounds. Thanks to a special infrared sensor, it was also able to avoid obstacles. Every technical enthusiast wants to become a robot master, so it is not surprising that the programming captivated the children and their parents. "I was pleasantly surprised by the workshop. I enjoyed it and I enjoyed entering commands as much as my son, maybe even a little more," said one of the participants in Saturday's program with a smile.
