Czech Television programme "Good Morning" with an expert from BUT. He presented the situation of renewable energy sources in the Czech Republic

World Energy Independence Day was proclaimed in Los Angeles on 10 July 2005 to commemorate the anniversary of Nikola Tesla's birth and to highlight the importance of energy independence and the development of sustainable energy sources. The day later gained worldwide recognition.
This occasion was commemorated by Czech Television in yesterday's Good Morning programme, where they invited an expert on electricity storage and renewable energy sources from Brno University of Technology (BUT).
Would you like to hear an expert commentary on the current state and future plans for the use of renewable energy sources in the Czech Republic? Then click on the links below to three roughly five-minute inputs by Tomas Kazda from the Department of Electrical Engineering, Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Communication, BUT.
In the first part of the programme, Tomáš Kazda and the presenters offer answers to the question of the possible future energy independence of the Czech Republic. He explains how the Czech power grid is in terms of readiness for further development of renewable energy sources or how realistic is the use of small modular nuclear reactors.
In the second entry, the moderators ask the expert from the BUT mainly about the legislative limits to the increased use of renewable energy sources. What is the biggest obstacle to their further development in the Czech Republic? How to achieve higher shares of renewable energy sources in the energy mix to meet the goals to which the Czech state has committed itself at the international level?
Finally, Tomáš Kazda explains the technological limits of renewable energy sources. An example is photovoltaics, which produces the most energy in the early afternoon, when households consume the least. Can battery storage systems solve this problem today? What are the types of battery technologies and what are they suitable for? What is the CO2 burden of battery production itself and how is current production reducing this burden?
If you are interested in the presentation of the expert from the BUT, read the article "Let's switch to electric cars before the train runs away" (in czech) from the magazine Události na VUT, in which Tomas Kazda presents various solutions for the composition of battery cells and comments on the need to develop the battery industry in the Czech Republic.
