New publication brings valuable connections between mathematics and signal processing
At the end of 2024, an electronic book entitled "Moderní funkcionální analýza s aplikacemi ve zpracování signálů" (Modern Functional Analysis with Applications in Signal Processing) was published, co-authored by Pavel Rajmic from the Department of Telecommunications (FEEC). This publication represents the first Czech monograph that provides a consistent interpretation of functional analysis techniques with a wide application potential in signal processing and machine learning.
The book was published by VUTIUM and unfortunately only in Czech language. More information about the book can be found here: Nová publikace přináší cenné propojení matematiky a zpracování signálů.
The book itself can be ordered here.
In the magazine Události dedicated to the topic of art, Pavel Rajmic also talked more about his passion for music. He plays violin, guitar and double bass. He performed with the band Cymbelín for 13 years and later played with the band Ponk, which won the 2015 Angel Award in the World Music category. Nowadays he is more into arranging music.
Pavel Rajmic studied mathematics at Masaryk University, but his professional career took a specific direction. "Mathematics is the basic language of the natural sciences, and in the field of signals and telecommunications it forms the very core of it, which has always fascinated me," Rajmic explains his motivation. "I wanted to understand how signals work under the surface and the methods used in recording studios, such as artificial reverberation simulation or automatic false singing correction."
It was the desire to understand the mathematical principles behind signal processing that led Rajmic to pursue a PhD at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Communication at BUT. As he says, "signals are just mathematics in disguise". Today, he is a professor at the Department of Telecommunications of BUT and is mainly involved in audio and image processing.
