BUT mail (replaces student and employee faculty mail)
BUT mail is already fully functional for students and employees. To move your existing mail from the faculty e-mail you can use the Instructions for Switching to BUT Mail for Students or the Instructions for Switching to BUT Mail for Employees..
A university-wide e-mail, referred to as BUT mail, is available to all users at FEEC. BUT uses cloud-based e-mail hosting, and although BUT has a choice between several cloud services, the default and preferred option at FEEC is to route BUT mail to Office 365.
BUT mail provides users with several e-mail addresses (aliases), even in several domains;
however, only addresses in the vut.cz domain, i.e., addresses in the form name@vut.cz,
were designated as official addresses by the FEEC management.
The shape of the part name is determined by user groups (students and employees) as follows:
- FEEC student’s official e-mail address is in the form
personal number@vut.cz, i.e., e.g.,123456@vut.czfor a student with personal number123456. - FEEC employee’s official e-mail address is in the form
VUTlogin@vut.cz, i.e., e.g.,novakj@vut.czfor employees with BUTloginnovakj.
We would like to inform students that all e-mails related to studying at FEEC, including BUT IS notifications, will be delivered to the student’s official e-mail address. According to the decision of the FEEC management, students must use this official address exclusively in electronic communication with the faculty.
You can use the appropriate web interface, the so-called webmail (Outlook in the case of Office 365 or Gmail when using Google Apps), to read and send BUT e-mail, or you can configure access to your account from any e-mail client with IMAP protocol support (incl. mobile applications) and use this client. Of course, both these methods can also be combined as needed (e.g., a client for active work and webmail as a temporary solution in situations where it is not possible or efficient to configure the client).
Parameters necessary for setting up an e-mail client to access BUT e-mail and other information can be found in the Mail manual on the BUT Intraportal (parameters for Gmail are in other documents on Google Sites, to which this link leads) or in the individual cloud services documentation.
Some basic BUT e-mail settings can be changed on the BUT Intraportal by selecting the
BUT e-mail settings
item in the menu with the user icon (on the top bar on the right, in the form of a bust, or followed by the username).
(However, we would like to remind you of the prescribed forms of official addresses described above,
which must be considered when changing the preferred address/alias.
For this reason, we do not recommend changing this setting in most cases.
Note: BUT will fully transfer to the vut.cz domain in the foreseeable future.
It may also be possible to make some additional settings in the respective webmail or in the e-mail client you currently use.
